Vintage Trailers Supply had it's grand opening in Sante Fe, New Mexico in September of 2019. VTS has moved its operation from Vermont to the South West. I was honored to have been asked to speak at the festival. I gave a talk on “Selling your vintage trailer.”

Here are 7 things that you can do to sell your trailer quicker and for more money:
  • Price the trailer fairly.
  • Shiny exterior paint. Colors like: Light blue, pink, red, yellow.
  • Make the trailer camp ready. Systems working, good tires, current title.
  • Show your trailer at a rally or have it published in the Vintage Camper Trailers Magazine.
  • Great photos can sell it before the buyer even sees it in person. Set the scene. Inside, outside, wide angles. All the lights on inside. Dawn or Dusk for exterior.
  • Use video to create a walk-through tour. Let the buyer get a feel for the trailer.
  • Create clear, concise, honest, text that will get buyers interested. Don’t overdo it.

Consider selling (and buying) on the Vintage Camper Trailers Classifieds. Sell your trailer parts on the classifieds for FREE! People LOVE vintage trailers and there seems to be no end to the families that want to be involved in the hobby. Magazine subscribers always get 20% off of their classified ads.

Consider this your warning:
  • Beware of craigslist scams. Offers to overpay or asking you to text them a 6-digit code are a scam. If it seems hinky, it is.
  • Be leery of multiple texts/emails without calling. Serious buyers don’t play games.
  • Meet potential buyer in a nearby park or public place.
  • DO NOT negotiate with someone who has not seen the trailer.
  • Never hold a trailer without a NON-REFUNDABLE deposit.
  • Your first offer may be your best offer.
  • Accept cash or wire transfer only.
Be fair and honest when you are selling your trailer, chances are you may be camping next to the buyers at a rally.

I just bought a 1950-1954 rainbow travel trailer to rebuild and sell. I want to get the most money I can. My question is should I stay with the original icebox or should I install a small propane refrigerator. Should I install a 12 V water pump and get away from the hand pump should I install a stereo and speaker while I have it torn apart or is it better to leave it all original? I’m thinking that someone buying this for camping purposes would like to have some of the modern Ness to it but maybe I am wrong

Thanks for taking the time

Dan
