We bought our first vintage trailer in 2006. It was a 1962 DeVille that we cleaned up and took camping. We stumbled on a group of trailerites and joined in on a couple of vintage trailer rallies. We still have that trailer today, along with several others. Our "vintage journey", as well as other trailerites' stories, are told in our two coffee table books (available on our website). Fast forward to 2019 and our FULL rally schedule is already set for the year.
We started hosting Trailerfest in 2011. It has now grown to three different events a year that always sell out. We added an event in Northern California in May, after the Woodsen Bridge event was canceled. Our spring Trailerfest in Hollister, California has a Rockabilly theme and our biggest Trailerfest Rally, 250 trailers, will be in Plymouth California in September, for the third year in a row. In addition to Trailerfest, we also host Boot Camp which is a restoration learning experience. (See the rally calendar in the back of this magazine or visit www.trailerfestrally.com or www.vctbootcamp.com for more details.) We also attend many rallies hosted by others.
The rallies that we host are in Northern California due to logistics. Organizing things like food, entertainment and volunteers is best done in our own backyard. This year we have the opportunity to co-host three more rallies outside of California and hope to connect with more trailerites while we are on the road. Maybe you will join us at one of these new camping events? The Hot August Nights Car Show in Reno, Nevada. The Pioneer Village camp out in Minden, Nebraska or the Rally on the Range in Gillette, Wyoming. (See the rally calendar in the back of this magazine or visit www.trailerfestrally.com for more details.)
The Hot August Nights car show feeds our passion for classic cars. Field camping in Reno, NV during this event is a great way to stay in the area at a modest price when hotel rooms are at a premium, if you can even find one. We saw a lot of visitors at last year’s open house! In 2019 there will be an evening open house on Friday from 5 pm to 8 pm and from 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday. The rest of the time is yours to enjoy the 1000s of cars that take over the whole town! The events in Nebraska and Wyoming are just two of the many stops we are making on our Golden Caravan cross country road trip. The Golden Caravan project includes the restoration of a one-of-a-kind Airstream trailer that will be featured in a documentary on a TV show called Ultimate Restorations. In June and July of 2019 we will be touring through the Midwest in the trailer. We will be stopping at several Airstream dealers and museums along the way where you can come and see this unique part of trailering history.
